How it works
How an order runs
From your artwork to boxes on a pallet. The sequence below is the real one, including the step most suppliers leave out of the timeline: waiting for you to approve the proof.
- 1
You send the brief
Same dayQuantity, finished size, destination and the date you need it in hand. Artwork if you have it. If you asked for an NDA, it comes back before you send anything else.
- 2
We quote
Within 12 business hoursOrigination and unit price listed separately, in USD or EUR, with lead time in working days and the Incoterms assumed. Valid 30 days.
- 3
Artwork review
Embossing is not printing. We check your file against what the process can hold and tell you which elements will read and which will disappear. This is where a day spent saves a week.
- 4
Origination, cutting the master shim
Your design is written into a master on our own equipment. This is the one-time cost on your quote. From this point the shim is held under the custody terms on our Quality & IP page.
- 5
Pre-production proof
Waits on youYou see real output from the real master before the run starts. Nothing proceeds until you approve it. This step has no fixed duration because it is the one we do not control.
- 6
Embossing and metallising
The run is counted and recorded against your order. Overrun and setup waste are separated for destruction rather than returned to stock.
- 7
Die-cutting, overprinting and finishing
Serial numbers, QR codes and spot colour are applied here, then the web is die-cut to your shape and finished to roll or sheet.
- 8
Quality control
Checked against the approved proof for registration, adhesion and feature legibility. On VOID products we also test release behaviour on the substrate you specified.
- 9
Despatch
Express courier for small orders, air or sea freight for larger. See shipping and payment for Incoterms and what each route costs you in time.
Artwork specification
What to send, and what embossing cannot hold
Publishing this removes days of back-and-forth from most jobs. If your file already meets it, we can usually go straight from quote to origination.
File format
- Vector only: AI, EPS or PDF. Fonts converted to outlines.
- Raster files (JPG, PNG) can be quoted but will need redrawing, which costs time.
- Artwork at 1:1 finished size, with the die line on its own layer.
What reproduces well
- Solid shapes and bold lettering.
- Clean geometric line work and guilloche patterns.
- High-contrast logos with clear separation between elements.
What does not
- Soft gradients and drop shadows, holography makes its own gradients.
- Very small reversed-out type. Tell us the smallest text you need and we will tell you if it will survive.
- Photographic images. These need redrawing as line work.
The holographic layer is not printed, so it has no CMYK values. Any overprinted ink is separate, supply those elements as spot colours with a named reference, not as a composite.
